Burning questions to ask about wedding photography?
We recently interviewed one of our wedding photography vendors – Jordan from Twist Photography after his wedding shoot with real-life HitchPlanner couple Ricardo & Jovita. Read on to hear his top tips about wedding photography for couples.
How would you describe your photography style?
Every couple has a story to tell in their relationship. Even through the ups and downs of their relationship. With their stories, we will input the elements of emotions, moment design to create long lasting memories that reminisce their journey together even after decades of marriage.
We design moments by adding the music to create atmosphere and calming our couples without the concern of our presence. It is through natural and candid moments that couples can strongly relate to their stories. This makes our photography candid and personal.
How long have you been shooting weddings? How many weddings have you photographed?
I have been shooting weddings for 5 years and I have lost count in the number of weddings that have been documented. I’d say definitely more than 100.
Do you often shoot weddings that have a similar size and style to your recent shoot with Jovita and Ricardo?
With the Covid situation and the reopening of the wedding venues of 20 to 50 capacity, I have been able to shoot 6 weddings since June.
Why do you love wedding photography?
I loved weddings even before I started Twist Photography which specializes in wedding photography. Weddings are a joyous event for the family as well as for the couples.
In particular, I enjoy traditional Chinese weddings and I will read up on traditional wedding practices and watch programmes that feature Chinese wedding customs.
Also, I love to participate in my couples’ wedding planning as they do not know what the practices of a traditional Chinese wedding should be like. Having helped so many couples with their wedding planning – I have now worked closely with partners that are providing Chinese wedding products and services to learn from them too.
Weddings also allow me to personalize moments for couples. I’m able to create unique and precious moments for each and every individual couple.
How would you describe your working style?
Our working style is fully-customised and up-front and personal. It’s time-consuming but I really enjoyed it!
First, we sit down with every single one of our couples to listen to their love stories. We customize a session to help them enjoy the shoot with us and have an amazing experience during their wedding shoot with us. From their love stories, we will be able to blend both their love story journey to a physical location that deem meaningful to their relationship whether this is just a hawker center or a particular setting where the couple has celebrated their anniversaries.
In terms of background, we make sure to choose something that complements each couple. For example, for cheerful and daring couples, we will choose something colorful that brings out their characters into the shoot. For those couples who are more adventurous, we will look for places that they spend most of their time at such as hiking sites or parks to highlight their adventurous nature in the shoot!
Do you prefer to blend into the background to capture candid moments, or do you like to be more visible and take charge to choreograph images?
My preference is to blend into the background to capture candid moments with my couples. I always tell my couples that I am a photographer who is here to document their wedding. It is not about me having beautiful memories. My only purpose is to put together the romantic pieces of their relationship into visuals so that they can sit together and reminisce about their wedding later in their marriage.
Do you shoot digitally? With film? Or both?
I shoot all weddings digitally but I edit my photos with the style of editing film photography. Having this hybrid approach makes my photos longer lasting but with the signature look and feel of film photography. This represents the unique classic aspects of marriage with the modern longevity of digital photography.

I did my pre-wedding & ROM with Jordan. I will definitely give him a 6 out of 5 stars for his overall professionalism and skills! His style of photography is aligned with both my husband and my style.

What is included in your standard package with HitchPlanner? What add-ons do the more expensive packages include?
All packages for ROM, Actual Day Wedding (Full or Half Day) will include a “Save the Date” Outdoor engagement shoot.
They can include albums, or canvas (varies in sizes). If they would like to add-ons additional hours, they can also let us know.
Can packages be customized to fit the needs of each individual couple?
Yes, definitely we allow our couples to customize their packages to their needs. We will also advise them of all of the details during the “Coffee Session with Twist”, which is free of charge and are included in all the packages.
Can you share 3 of the best words of advice for couples during a wedding shoot?
Wedding photography is for just the two of you and not only represent your love but also it is a physical capture of your commitment.
